NOWS THE PAST
These photographs were taken on the sets of the films Umi wa mite ita (The Sea Watches, dir. Kei Kumai, 2002) and Dora Heita (dir. Kon Ichikawa, 2000). The actual places being Nikkatsu Studios, an open set built in the parking area of Jindai Botanical Gardens, Hiroshima Miroku no Sato, and Shochiku Kyoto Studios. Once upon a time: thinking to make a photographic record of the borderline between reality and make-believe, the actors and backstage crew who populate these between-worlds, I made the rounds of different locations. And it was wonderful, just to be able to witness these scenes in my own contemporary person.
